Ramses Morales Exhibition in Switzerland

Ramses is member of the Scientific council of the Center LIBREXPRESSION. Libex is therefore very happy to announce his personal exhibition in St Gallen (Switzerland) from the 9th of February to the 4th of March. Ramses will present his political cartoons of the year 2017.

Short Biography

Ramsés Morales Isquierdo was born in 1970 in Trinidad, Cuba. He discovered the passion for drawing in his early childhood. That’s why he attended the appropriate art schools in Cuba after finishing school. After graduating, he has created many works in Cuba, from paintings, comic books, illustrations, cartoons to murals and much more. In Cuba, Ramsés has established himself in the circle of prominent cartoonists. His cartoons have been published there for years in all major media. He started as an independent painter in Havana in Cuba. He then lectured at the Trinidad School of Art for 10 years. For 16 years he worked as an illustrator for the Office of Conservation in Trinidad. Self-employed as a political cartoonist for the Cuban and international press, he has already participated in over 30 solo and collective exhibitions in Cuba and around the world. An illustrious portfolio!
Since February 2016 Ramsés lives in eastern Switzerland, in St.Gallen, a quiet little town on Lake Constance. Now he lives Switzerland and he has an exhibition in.
Coming to St. Gallen was a cultural shock – but a positive one: “I was quite surprised that the buses and trains are on time. And the weather here does not bother me, I do not miss the heat “he laughs. And there are also other East Swiss delights. “I really like the St.Gallen sausage“. He also likes the historic side of St.Gallen. The quiet rural life gives him much creative power.

Social criticism

In addition to his education, he describes the “life school” as an equally important part of his personal development in the professional field.
Every day he gives a humorous or satirical graphic opinion on numerous topics in politics, society and history. His cartoons are published in Europe, primarily in magazines, and in newspapers. Regular customers include, for example, the well-known Swiss satire magazine “Nebelspalter“, the French weekly magazine “Courrier International” and other international media in Italy, Canada, USA, Puerto Rico, etc.

The combination of text and image makes cartoons attractive and suitable for dramatic, overdrawn presentation. Cartoons make image and text interdependent. What the picture does not explain, the text explains. Good cartoons also often work without text, they are self-explanatory. A simple statement, understandable for everyone. But graphically worked up so that it also has a corresponding effect. The comically exaggerated portrayal of people or social conditions – even with a political or propagandistic background is a graphic weapon.

Ramses works disciplined every day on his works. He gets up at six o’clock, then search for new ideas, which he often finds while browsing the newspapers of the world. The danger of his job nowadays became really clear to him in the terrible bloodbath in the Paris “Charlie Hebdo” editorial team. “That a caricature could kill people – I could not imagine that. I did not know such a thing in Cuba”. He also had a personal connection to the drama because two caricaturists shot dead were part of his circle of acquaintances. “So warm, humorous people.”
