With Fany-Blog (https://Fany-blog.blogspot.com) I publish the controversy rightly launched by Marilena Nardi following a call for cartoons for an exhibition in IRAN of the World Cartoonists Stars, obviously reserved only to “male” cartoonists”. Following this a specific part was open to “female” who obviously again cannot be compared to men neither be mixed with men. It is sad to see that this exhibition was not boycotted by most of the male cartoonist. LIBREXPRESSION is in full agreement with Marilena and fight all discrimination of women, specifically in Iran with the help our common friend Kianoush:

Marilena Nardi  speaks for women’s right in Iran, but also all over the world.

If I have this voice, it is to sing.
Certainly not to shout.

I am not for destruction, but for change.
This is my battle. And I do it with my drawings, which are my voice. Which is a free voice, like singing.

Dear Friends, dear Cartoonists who have received an invitation to participate in a cultural exhibition in Iran. I address you. I know your work and your good faith.
Now that you know that the exhibition provides only a male participation, that women, your colleagues are not in the mind of those who organize these events, except in special special sections. Give a signal! The exhibition is about music. Well: there are many women in music. Send images, caricatures of women musicians, singers, composers.
We will be excluded from the exhibition, but we will be represented by you.

Thus the mentality is changed. With culture. If the show wants to be a cultural event – and culture is the only thing that can open minds and make a change – give a strong signal!
There are already many and many who ask to boycott the show. But it makes no sense. You now have the opportunity to change it. Show yourself with the evidence of your art that you can. The world can be different, it can be even better there. Also in Iran.
We, your female colleagues, will not be there, but you will be there to represent us all, and with us also all the other women.

Una mostra in Iran annuncia che esporrà “i migliori vignettisti del mondo!”. Tra questi nessuna donna. Marilena Nardi lo nota immediatamente, facendolo ironicamente notare all’organizzazione, che risponde “l’evento è di altissima qualità artistica. Le donne sono previste in una apposita sezione speciale”. Chiamiamola difficoltà di comunicazione, misunderstanding o espressione di una cultura di quel paese (ma non molto diversa dalla nostra, intendiamoci), ma a quel punto Marilena, giustamente, prende il megafono e annuncia battaglia contro i loro (e i nostri) pregiudizi.

Antonio Antunes :
I did not know the exhibition was exclusively for male cartoonists. This does not make sense. Quality does not have sex.

The “high artistic level” is not exclusive for men, in art there is no gender, a pity the unfortunate criterion of choice of this exhibition where we participate in good faith.

Non si può essere ingenui con questo tipo di mostre, non sono escluse solo le vignette di donne, ma il tema della mostra è “artisti musicisti”, qualcosa che non è detto nel video promozionale, e questo è perverso in un Paese in cui la libertà di espressione è violata, viene applicata la pena di morte e le donne sono disprezzate. Hanno gettato il gancio e hanno punto. Chi ha il budget per organizzare un’esposizione di questo tipo ma il regime iraniano?

Purtroppo in alcuni Paesi la differenza tra i sessi nella società è ben lontana dall’essere superata o attenuata. Almeno nell’arte, ma soprattutto nella satira e nell’umorismo si sperava che l’Iran avesse fatto un passo avanti – vista la grande tradizione di bravi artisti di ambo i sessi e mostre internazionali – ma questa è l’ultima dimostrazione che bisogna fare ancora molta strada.
E’ chiaro che la battuta ha urtato la suscettibilità del nostro amico, che sinceramente credevo meno “integralista” …sempre che non debba rispettare rigide disposizioni politiche e religiose anche in questo settore.

Paolo Lombardi:

Sono venuto a conoscenza che a Settembre ci sarà una manifestazione in Iran dove sono stati invitati i maggiori disegnatori del mondo, tutti uomini, giustamente la disegnatrice Marilena Nardi ha fatto notare all’organizzatore Iraniano l’assenza delle artiste donne, l’organizzatore ha risposto che le artiste donne parteciperanno in una sezione a loro dedicata, la Nardi ha replicato dicendo che un artista è un artista indifferentemente dal sesso, a questa sua affermazione l’organizzatore ha pensato di cancellare i commenti della Nardi e l’ha cancellata dalle amicizie. Ora io mi chiedo, ma i vari artisti chiamati a partecipare all’evento che intenzione hanno dopo che ormai è stato appurato in maniera evidente la situazione? Alcuni si sono espressi dicendo che hanno aderito alla manifestazione in buona fede, si va bene lo posso capire, ma oggi cosa hanno intenzione di fare dopo l’evidente discriminazione verso le donne? Ma poi , pensiero mio, ma non solo credo, la cosa che mi ha colpito è stato il silenzio totale di molti degli invitati alla manifestazione, pensare che la Nardi li ha espressamente chiamati a esternare il loro pensiero sulla vicenda, nulla, niente, a questo punto non posso fare a meno di pensare e di dire chiaramente che questi artisti si vendono per una comparsata , per un attimo di gloria, magari anche per un viaggio premio in Iran, no !! Da queste persone non lo posso concepire questo atteggiamento, persone che ogni giorno disegnano invocando la libertà di espressione, persone che ogni giorno disegnano denunciando i soprusi che avvengono in tutte le parti del mondo, mi dispiace ma non ho più quella stima che prima avevo di voi.
Poi oggi arriva la rettifica, non so, forse la toppa, il voler rigirare la frittata da parte dell’organizzatore postando foto di donne, compreso sua moglie poveretta, in cui dichiara che le donne in Iran non vengono discriminate , tantomeno nell’arte, dicendo che ci sono tante donne che fanno arte, quindi dice lui, nessuno ha discriminato Marilena Nardi.
Concludo dicendo solamente che un artista serio boicotterebbe questo evento.

Questa è una vicenda che merita di essere fatta conoscere. Parte da una mostra in Iran, dove una grande disegnatrice italiana scopre che le donne non sono invitate, per loro ci sarà una sezione separata. Questo è il suo appello ai colleghi maschi. L’istinto maschile diceva boicottaggio subito; il suo appello, bellissimo, è invece: partecipate, ma disegnando solo donne. Un messaggio di unità e non di divisione.

Marilena Nardi querida, e silencio es el que habla más fuerte, ponerse del lado de la justicia de la persona vulnerable tiene implicaciones, de ser relegada por ejemplo, pero si UNA CARICATURA NO SIRVE PARA DEFENDER LAS GRANDES CAUSAS DE LA HUMANIDAD entonces ¿cuál sería el sentido?
Sabes que mi causa principal es la defensa de los derechos de las niñas y las mujeres, a eso dedico todos mis días de manera activa.
LA LUCHA DE LA INCLUSIÓN DE LAS MUJERES NO SOLO ES TAREA DE LAS MUJERES es una deuda de toda la humanidad.
Esta es una buena oportunidad para cuestionar que tan incluyentes es el gremio de caricaturistas en el mundo.
Ma llamó fuertemente la atención que muchos creyeron que habías tomado una postura de “buena niña” al tener un tono conciliador en tu anterior comunicado y “o ser conflictiva”…. por eso además celebro tu estrategia de permitir que cada uno, una, exprese su verdadera postura ante el tema.
MUCHO POR APRENDER EN TEMAS DE GÉNERO, con gusto los asesoramos, necesitamos que también las plumas masculinas dibujen igualdad para las mujeres de todo el mundo.
Amiga querida, tu grandeza o solo es por ser una gran artista si no por tu corazón puesto en el bien del mundo. Abrazo SORORARIO DESDE MÉXICO.

dear Marilina I agree with you and we should accept the mistake and change it to a beautiful thing. I create many artworks in my career for women. we keep this together for changing. here I ask and invite you and all artists to accept my request for participation as you said.
